Heritage English accommodation
Most immersion one-to-one language courses at Heritage English are based on the student staying with English people in their homes, which is what we mean by homestay.
With a homestay, students have their own private room in the house and join the family for breakfast, and dinner. Lunch may be a sandwich or packed lunch provided by the host family, or it may be a hot meal taken with the teacher. This will depend on the type of course that is taken.
Facilities for homestay courses
When an immersion course is booked we give every student full details of their hosts (including their work, interests, etc) with photos of the homestay family, the house and the rooms.
Some homes can provide private bathrooms. Please specify if this is essential. Alternatively students are able to share the family bathroom. Washing facilities for clothes are provided, and hosts wash student bedding once a week.
Internet facilities are available in some homes, and at Newlands Manor there are wireless internet facilities for students who bring their personal laptop computers. Please tell us if you have any special needs such as diet. If you require special meals, it is important to tell us before you arrive in England. > Contact Us

Friendly comfort!
Our hosts all provide comfortable, friendly surroundings in a beautiful part of England > Location and the language learned with the hosts and our teachers out of lesson times is a critical part of the immersion programme.
Our students arrive as guests and leave as friends.
Newlands Manor
Newlands Manor is an impressive country house built in the Gothic fashion by Admiral Cornwallis, one of Nelson’s commanders. The house was built on the site of a 1723 building which burnt down in 1801. Between 1805 and 1920 the house was a fashionable place to visit with guests including Kaiser Wilhelm 1, King Edward V11, the Prince of Wales, Winston Churchill and the Duke of Westminster.
After the First World War in 1920 the estate was sold to Sir John Power and in 1948 it was sold and divided into eleven private parts.
We are able to offer several rooms in a part of the manor where Celia and her family have lived for 20 years.
The house is surrounded by 30 acres of beautiful private woodland and park where wild deer roam free and the private fishing lake is stocked with wild carp.
Students can take a walk in the resident-only private park - provided they are in the company of Celia or a member of the family.
Milford village and the sea are a short ten / fifteen minute walk from the Manor.
The Garden Flat at Newlands

On the ground floor of Celia’s part of the Manor is a self-contained apartment which is let out for holidays. It is available for students who wish to have a different kind of experience – an independent holiday with English lessons taken at home.
Some students like to stay in the Garden Flat with friends or families and have the freedom to shop and prepare meals in their own kitchen.
The apartment has just been completely redecorated with new carpets and furnishings and offers luxury accommodation. The flat has a main bedroom with the choice of twin beds or a double, the option of sleeping up to three more people, and facilities for a baby.
The payment rate for staying in the Garden Flat is from £295 to £350 per week, depending on the time of year.
This is a popular option and most dates for 2007 are already taken. It is advisable to book this well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Family homestay near the Manor
Rooms at the Manor are limited, but we are able to offer full board and private rooms for students in homes close to the Manor where families are happy to welcome students and provide breakfast and an evening meal. Lunch can be a substantial meal taken at the table or a picnic or snack meal. This will depend on the timetable of activities.
We are careful to match students and families so that everyone is happy with each other. For example, if a student is allergic to animals, we make sure they are in a pet free household. For young learners we match students with families who have children of a similar age to the student.
Some homestay hosts are retired or professional people with a free room to offer our students. On confirmation of booking, students receive a full profile of their family, describing their work and interests, hobbies, etc.
Photographs of the house and family are sent in advance.
Smoking is generally not accepted in English homes, but most people do not mind if smokers go outside.
Students are encouraged to exchange emails or phone calls with their host family or tutor before they arrive in the UK.
Bed & Breakfast or hotel accommodation
Some students do not want homestay accommodation and prefer to book accommodation independently, coming to us at Newlands Manor for their one-to-one or two-to-one language lessons.
If the Garden Flat is booked, it is possible for students to stay in local hotels and come to us for lessons.
The South Lawn Hotel is situated 5 minutes away from the Manor.
Alternatively, we can provide details of local bed and breakfast or self-catering holiday accommodation for you. Students must then make contact, book and make payment for this kind of accommodation independently.
