Special interests

Heritage English - relaxing in the garden with a book in English! There is a wide range of sporting and leisure activities that students can combine with their one-to-one homestay immersion English language course.

We encourage all students to relax and take fresh air and exercise after their formal lessons as this helps them to be in a good physical condition to make learning easy and more enjoyable.

Cultural activities:

Walk to Hurst Castle along the shingle bank with sea views all around. This historic castle is an ancient fort with spectacular views in every direction.

Visit to the historic town of Christchurch with a tour of the Priory and Red House Museum. A very good bookshop and market on Mondays.

Day out on the Isle of Wight. Visit Queen Victoria’s Palace or take the bus to the Needles Rocks.

Heritage English - Visit to BournemouthTour of the New Forest and a visit to Lyndhurst Museum where you can learn about the history, how the horses are managed and how the park is preserved.

SHOPPING in Southampton – just 30 minutes away with every main shop you can imagine – and all with a seaside setting. A major art gallery is not to be missed for those who appreciate the arts.

Bournemouth – more shops, beaches and a wide choice of bars and restaurants.

Beaulieu, a delightful historic town in the Forest, has a Palace belonging to Lord Montagu. The Lord has an amazing collection of classic and veteran cars which are stored in the Museum. There is also a James Bond collection and a monastery included in this fascinating day out.

Walk along the sea wall from Milford to Lymington, with views of the Isle of Wight. This is wild bird sanctuary and a magnet for bird watchers from afar.

Heritage English London trip - vivit the London Eye!For those who have booked a two or three week course, we can include a weekend visit to London. The train journey takes only 90 minutes and it is a great opportunity to see all those famous places in our exciting capital city.

Sporting activities:

Golf: A selection of top courses with stunning sea views. This is a popular option with our business students who sometimes bring their own golf clubs. If you prefer, it is possible to hire equipment from the Club.

Tennis: Coaching for all levels at exclusive private courts, Chewton Glen Hotel, Barton on Sea. Or we can book a court to play together at the local recreation centre.

Horse Riding: The New Forest provides a perfect location for trekking and there are plenty of Riding Stables who also offer tuition at all levels: Burley Stables, New Park at Brockenhurst, ….

Sailing at Lymington Yacht MarinaSailing: Lymington is the home of the Olympic Gold Medallist sailor, Ben Ainslee. All kinds of boating are possible, from small Optimist dinghies for beginners to larger, faster boats for the more experienced sailor.

Surfing: Popular with all students. The waters are good for surfing and Bournemouth and Boscombe are building an artificial surf reef to make this sport a special attraction. Lessons can be booked for beginners. Completion is due end of 2007.

Canoeing/Kayaking: A popular water sport on Beaulieu River. A qualified coach will take you for a trip down the river. This is a very popular activity in the summer.

Sport: Lymington Recreation Centre is the local facility where students can take part in swimming, badminton, trampoline, football, hockey, tennis, netball and table tennis.

Calshott Activity Centre, a little further up the coast, is one of the largest outdoor activity centres in Britain. Students can book courses in canoeing, windsurfing, power boating, rock climbing. At Calshott there is a year round dry ski and snowboard facility and there is a cycling circuit training stadium.

Cycling along the coastCycling: Sometimes we are able to provide hired bicycles for our students, or we can arrange cycling days in the New Forest which is a perfect way to see the lovely scenery and wild ponies roaming free.

Swimming at the Lymington Seawater Baths, a popular open air pool right next to the quay. In winter or bad weather the heated indoor pool at the recreation centre is a wiser choice!

Tree abseiling - swinging from treetop to treetop in a glorious pine forest in a specially built course under supervision of trained experts. Moors Valley Country Park covers a huge area of forest with many similar activities. (over 18 years only)
