Heritage English is a small, exclusive language training organisation on the South Coast of England. See > Location
The founders and principal teachers are > Gail Steggell and > Celia Lincoln. Both Heritage English directors are fully Cambridge qualified and have a wide experience of hosting and teaching students of all ages and levels of English.
Our philosophy
Gail and Celia believe passionately that the quickest and most effective way to learn a language is to listen and speak 24 hours a day by staying with English families and having lessons in the home.
They supervise all the plans for one-to-one immersion lessons and they monitor the progress of all students during their stay.
The combination of intensive formal one-to-one lessons combined with the daily conversation practice out of lessons is what we call “total immersion”. It is this daily repetition and practice that helps learners to keep the new language in their minds after they return.
Our students continually praise the success of this well-proven method. > Testimonials
Our students arrive as guests and leave as friends.
The team
Because Heritage English is a small, friendly organisation, Celia and Gail know each member of the teaching team personally.
All members of our teaching team are like personal friends. It is like a professional family. We know their specialities, their career backgrounds and their interests very well. We match a teacher with a student and we tell you about your teacher when you book your course. >link to Booking a Course.
We send photographs of teachers and host families to our students when they book an immersion course. We encourage an exchange of emails, letters or phone calls between students and their hosts and teachers before arrival in England. > Contact us
Gail Steggell -profile

She has lived and taught in Athens and speaks fluent Greek.
Gail is dedicated to the success of her students and is an expert in teaching the complexities of English tenses and grammatical structures in a way that students find easy to understand.
Celia Lincoln-profile
Before teaching, Celia worked as a journalist in London where she traveled widely as a motoring correspondent. Since moving to the South coast when her children were born, she has taught French to English primary school children for many years. It was her direct experience of learning French by living with a family as a teenager that convinced her of the success of the immersion method of learning.
Celia has taught people from many countries in English Language schools in Bournemouth and hosted many academic students and business clients who stay in her home at Newlands Manor.
